Superb Ignite learner response – I particularly like the idea of developing the idea of ‘normalisation’ in society (and the media’s role in this). We need to make sure this is contained within a well-organised essay but there’s huge potential here to develop this into a top-level critical investigation. Feminism is going to be a crucial aspect for this investigation – we’ve got plenty of excellent textbooks in DF07 which can be added straight into your project proposal research plan. You’ll need textual analysis in the essay so consider which key scenes from the Handmaid’s Tale you will focus on. It’s important to pick scenes that help develop the ideas you plan to discuss in the essay. The idea of ‘normalisation’ in society gives you a chance to discuss Marxism and Hegemony (you’ll study these with Ms Fowler after half-term).
